AAI Members Discuss Climate Change Policy with Senator Grassley

Despite late harvests and the approaching Thanksgiving holiday, more than 60 people attended the Aribusiness Association of Iowa’s meeting with Senator Grassley, held Tuesday, November 24th in Ames at Iowa State University. The successful event was an outstanding opportunity for AAI members to interact, ask questions, and voice their concerns to Iowa’s Senior Senator.
The meeting was unique in that AAI member, FCStone Carbon began the event by presenting to the Senator their perspective on climate change policy and how pending regulations and legislation would impact the ag industry. Mike Kinley with FCStone Carbon also detailed the impact of carbon sequestration. Kinley’s information helped enhance the notion that agriculture needs to be at the table during climate change legislation and regulation discussions.
Following the presentation Senator Grassley answered several questions from the audience. The majority of the questions concerned pending climate change policy, the EPA’s decisions regarding renewable fuels, and whether or not the EPA is overstepping its authority with indirect land use.
Grassley told the audience he felt privileged to speak before them because of their expertise in the industry. AAI would like to thank the Senator for taking time during his holiday break to speak to our members and answer their questions.
